Regular text message is a message that consists of no more than 160 Latin characters with no diacritic marks, specific punctuation marks (e.g., ] } _ ‘) or symbols (e.g., currency symbols, smileys, @ and so on).
Yes, modern phones allow for that. Just type as much as you need.
If the text is longer than 160 characters, it will be split in several interlinked messages that are called linked text messages. You should not worry as the addressee will receive one text message if his or her phone supports this functionality – just as you sent it.
Linked messages allow to send more than 160 characters (and symbols) in one text message. They are called linked, as several messages – 3 and more – can be sent together.
Please note! When you send linked messages, each of them is charged to your account separately according to your tariff plan.
It is possible that your phone supports this functionality – check its instructions for use.
You can type a linked message of unlimited length, but if there is a lot to say, it is better to choose an alternative way of communication – a call or an e-mail.
The number of parts in a message are calculated as follows:
2 text messages = 160 characters + 146 characters
3 text messages = 160 characters + 146 characters + 153 characters
To type text messages with letters from the Latvian alphabet, you have to activate character encoding (Unicode) on your phone that is available in most modern telephones.
Usually, it is automatically activated as soon as you choose the Latvian language in the settings of your phone or text message. If it was not done automatically, please check your phone’s instructions for use.
Please note!
If you use the Latvian letters to type a text message, its length cannot exceed 70 characters. Of course, you can also send a longer linked message that consists of several parts. In two text messages you can include 70 characters + 63 characters, but in three text messages – 70 characters + 63 characters + 68 characters. When you send linked messages, each of them is charged separately according to your tariff plan.
To type text messages in Russian, you have to activate character encoding (Unicode) on your phone that is available in most modern telephones.
Usually, it is automatically activated as soon as you choose the Russian language or Cyrillic in the settings of your phone or text message. If it was not done automatically, please check your phone’s instructions for use.
Please note!
If you use Cyrillic to type a text message, its length cannot exceed 70 characters. Of course, you can also send a longer linked message that consists of several parts. In two text messages you can include 70 characters + 63 characters, but in three text messages – 70 characters + 63 characters + 68 characters. When you send linked messages, each of them is charged separately according to your tariff plan.
Check your settings and make sure that the number of the messaging center is correct. Please remember that it has to be indicated in the international format: +37129202020.
Modern phones support this functionality, but you can send the same message to multiple recipients by means of the Text message to a group service.
Charge per message sent to a member of the group – 0.0517 €.
